The meaning of the word Pakistan is the “land of pure”. The word “Pak” is been derived from Pashto meaning pure and “stan” is from Persian meaning Land.
The name was first tossed in 1933 as Pakstan by Pakstan Movement activist Choudhry Rahmat Ali. He first published it in his novel “Now or never”. He used it to refer to the people of 5 northern regions Punjab, Afghania, Kashmir, Sindh and Baluchistan. The letter “i” was later added to ease pronunciation.
